.45 calibre stainless steel revolver being fired

As can be seen by the blurring of the image of this percussion cap fired black powder revolver, there is considerable vibration at the moment of discharge. Most of the flash comes from the muzzle of the gun, very little from the cap that is used to ignite the main charge; contrast this with the percussion single shot pistol and even more so the flintlock shotgun. Stainless steel is a good medium to make these guns from, as black powder (and Pyrodex) is quite corrosive and it is essential to undertake thorough cleaning after use.
