These
are Kustermann made shooting boots designed for shooting rifle in the standing,
kneeling and prone positions (the main benefits are in standing and kneeling).
What cannot be seen in this view is that the sole is completely flat, so as to
give the maximum stability when standing. The toe is squared-off so as to reduce
the tendency for the foot to roll to one side when kneeling. These boots
illustrate the lengths to which one must go in order to be competitive in a
highly disciplined and technical sport; anyone could shoot in bare feet if they
wished, but few people do.
