Side view
of a Feinwerkbau LG700 rear sight
This is the rear sight used in the photograph of the
marksman's eye view of
the target. The marksman looks through the sight from left to right and the
eyepiece is so close to the eye that no detail of it can be made out. The
eyepiece is used to centralise the eye with the foresight and to adjust the
amount of light by varying the aperture (blue ring) and the colour of the view
(ring with coloured marks). Elevation and lateral movements are adjusted by means of the
two white knobs. Although this sight is from an air rifle, very similar ones are
used for precision .22 rimfire and larger calibre centrefire precision target
shooting at all distances, both indoors and on open air ranges. The language
used for the markings on the sight is German and means as follows for the
lateral adjustment:
"L" stands for
"Links", which means "Left". "R" stands for "Recht", which means "Right". For
the vertical adjustment: "H" stands for "Hoch", which means "High" and "T"
stands for "Tief", which means "Low". Being German sights this means that if the
shots are going to the left, you adjust the sights to the "L" (which moves the
point of impact to the right) and so on. This method of sight marking can catch
out the unwary, as it is the opposite of British and American practice
