Cannon being fired
This picture is being
shown for interest only as the cannon involved is a little too large for use on
our indoor range. The location is Kronborg Castle, Helsingør, Denmark (called
Elsinore in Shakespeare's Hamlet). The gun was firing a blank saluting charge,
because as can be seen in the background, the channel was being used by shipping
at the time and live shot would not have been a good idea. The shock wave from
the muzzle could be felt at some considerable distance.
(NB: Helsingør is normally spelt Helsingor in
English)
